“Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice.  And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.  They somehow already know what you truly want to become.  Everything else is secondary.”  –Steve Jobs

I have always relied heavily on my inner ‘voice’.  That being said, when ‘life’ gets busy, it sometimes becomes difficult to hear that voice!  I always spend the first few minutes of each appointment chatting with a client.  I do this for many reasons but, most importantly, I do this so that we can both share a calm moment to discuss and contemplate what the next step will be.

In todays world we are all moving so quickly and are constantly been inundated with images of what is ‘trendy’ or ‘hot at the moment’.  These images tend to imprint in our minds and because we are all so busy our inner voice never has a chance to edit.  I have heard countless horror stories where clients have walked into salons with a page ripped out of a magazine and asked to have that exact same color or style.  The problem is, they have not considered many important questions like, ‘is this a wearable everyday style?’, how would this color look with my skin tone?’….the list goes on.  And behind the chair, the stylist may be seeing clients back to back and not have time to consider the same very questions.

I see the first few minutes I spend with each client as a chance for both of us to listen to our inner voices and allow some editing to take place.  Ultimately, the client and I create a vision together and then I am left to execute that vision.  I feel incredibly blessed to be able to experience this exchange and connection with clients everyday.  If my inner voice could speak out loud, it would be saying, I have won the jackpot!
